Bronze For
Andorra, Luxembourg On The Beach
LIMASSOL, 5 June 2009
- Andorra's men and Luxemburg's women were the winners
of the bronze medals in Beach Volleyball at the XIII
Games of the Small States of Europe.
In men,
it only took 33 minutes to Andorra's Xavier Folguera
Estruga and Christian Salvador Campillo to defeat
Monaco’s Frank Gopcevic and Thomas Widiez. Estruga and
Campillo took control early in the game and ended up
winning fairly easy in straight sets 2-0 (21-14, 21-17).
The
case was not the same in the women’s bronze game.
Liechtenstein’s Bettina Mähr and Petra Walser were ahead
by 20-16, needing just one more point to take the first
set against Luxemburg’s Jeannw Schneider and Norma
Zambon. They did not take it, as the Luxemburgians made
a superb comeback to win by 23-21!
The
second set was similar, as Liechtenstein went ahead by
7-0, but again… found a way to lose the set, together
with the medal… This time, the girls from Luxemburg
reacted a bit earlier, as they first tied it at eleven
(11-11) and then never looked back, winning by 21-14. It
took 40 minutes in total for Schneider and Zambon to
post their great win.
