LIMASSOL,
5 June
2009 - Gold medal holders Monaco will face hosts Cyprus
in what is expected to be a mouthwatering final in the
Women’s Beach Volleyball at the XIII Games of the Small
States of Europe.
On
Friday, Magalie Muratore and Caroline Van Klaveren had
to come back from behind to beat the plucky Luxembourg
duo of Jeanne Schneider and Norma Zambon.
The
gold medal holders fell behind in the first set 21-18
but stormed back in style in the second set 24-22 before
taking the winning ticket to the final in the tie break
decider with a 15-10 victory.
Monaco
will now meet Cyprus in Friday afternoon’s final with
the hosts aiming to secure their first ever gold medal
in the women’s beach volleyball event.
In the
other game, Cyprus’s Mariota Aggelopoulou and Manolina
Konstantinou also had to come back from behind against
Liechtenstein losing the first set 21-17 to Bettina Mahr
and Petra Walser.
Despite
surrendering a set for the first time in the current
event, the Cypriots did not tilt and, like Monaco, came
out firing in the remaining two sets winning 21-13 and
15-9.
