Two Out Of
Two For Cyprus And Andorra
NICOSIA,
4 June 2009
- Cyprus and Andorra remain the only undefeated
volleyball teams in the men’s event leading many to
believe that Friday’s meeting is likely to determine
what will be the top three finish.
Cyprus
struggled to get past a resilient Luxembourg side
despite winning 3-0 and is now at the top of the
standings with Andorra.
Antonis
Papadopoulos' side easily took the first set 25-16 but
Luxembourg took the game to their complacent hosts in
the second set and came within striking distance of
taking the second set with the score at 23-21. But
Cyprus hit back to finally win 27-25 and held firm to
win the third set 25-18 despite a late rally from the
Luxembourg players.
Cyprus'
top players were Nikos Kolas (13), Angelos Alexiou (10),
Eracleous and Petrakidis.
Quarters: 25-16, 27-25, 25-18.
CYPRUS:

taking their second victory were Andorra who
convincingly beat Iceland 3-0 and Marti Castealla’s men
are now in the driving seat for a medal. With Marco
Jardim in fine form along with Marc Altayo and Javi
Borrego also putting on strong performances, the
Andorrans were never really troubled by their Icelandic
opponents. Andorra will now meet Cyprus on Friday.
Quarters: 25-19, 25-20, 25-17

Luxembourg (9:00) and Cyprus – San Marino (11:15) in the
