Matches Determined In Tennis Doubles
NICOSIA,
4 June 2009 - Monaco and San Marino will challenge for
the gold medal in the men’s doubles in tennis at the
XIII Games of the Small States of Europe. Monaco, with
the pair by Jean - Rene Lisnard and Guillaume Couillard,
easily beat Jorge Vila Vila and Jean Baptiste Poux
Gautier from Andorra with 2-0 set (6-2, 6-1).
In the
other semifinal, Domenico Vicini and Stefano Galvani of
San Marino had a hard time only in the first set against
the Icelanders Arnar Sigurdsson and Birgir Gunnarsson.
The pair from San Marino won 2-0 set (7-5, 6-1).
In the
women’s doubles, Luxemburg and Liechtenstein will play
each for the gold. Mandy Minella and Claudine Schaul of
Luxemburg crushed the pair from Monaco (Louise-Alice
Gambarini and Emilia Milovanovic) without losing a
single game (2-0 set: 6-0, 6-0).
In the
second semifinal, Marina Novac and Kathinka Von
Deichmann from Liechtenstein needed three sets but
eventually will Maltese Kimberley Cassar and Elaine
Genovese.
In
tennis no third place matches will take place, so in the
men’s doubles Andorra and Iceland won bronze and Monaco
with Malta win bronze in the women’s double.
