Three
Cypriots Sail Ahead
LIMASSOL,
3 June 2009
- Three Cypriot athletes took the helm of their
sailboats at Limassol bay on Wednesday. Pavlos Kontides,
Natasa Christodoulou and Mari Sarri proved they have a
great chance of claiming gold medals in their
categories.
World
champion Pavlos Kontides also finished first in the
men’s Laser category in three sailboat races on Tuesday,
followed by Emmanuel Sanchez and Damien Lerale from
Monaco.
Natasa
Christodoulou made a great first impression in the Laser
Radial and is in the lead so far. Maya Podesta from
Malta is in second place and Elena Ioannou in third.
Maria
Sarri from the women’s Optimist category clearly has her
eye on a gold medal as she ended first in all three
races, followed by Marine Prat from Monaco and Eleni
Kyriakidou.
Thomas
Zammir Tabona from Malta is in the lead in men’s
Optimist fourth category. Massimo Mazzolini from Monaco
is in the second place and our fellow countryman
Gregoris Christodoulou is in third.
Thursday, the second day of the sport, will be crucial
in determining the rankings.
