Monaco And
Iceland Dominate Judo
NICOSIA, 3 June 2009
- Monaco and Iceland were the big winners in the second
day of judo in the XIII Games of the Small States of
Europe.
The two nations secured
gold medals to move ahead in the final standings of the
event. Monaco took control in the men’s event through
Yann Siccardi in the Individual 60kg category and Yoann
Suau in the 73kg category.
The third gold in the men’s
category went to Bjarni Skulason of Iceland and there
was more joy for the Nordic country in the women’s event
as Anna Soffi Vikingsdottir took the gold medal.
Also
in the women’s event, Liechtenstein celebrated its first
gold with Nadine Thony taking top prize in the 48kg
event whilst in the 57kg event, Marie Muller also
prevailed.
Following the second day of judo, Monaco and Iceland
were the big gold medal winners with both nation taking
three golds. Monaco also secured the most medals in the
event.
