All To Play
For In Pool B On The Beach
LIMASSOL, 3 June 2009
- The Monaco Beach Volleyball Men’s Team has blown Pool
B wide open after their 2-1 (17-21, 21-19, 15-9)
marathon victory over Liechtenstein in a frantic game
which lasted around 120 minutes.
The
final result means that the three out of the four sides
in the pool (Monaco, Liechtenstein and Andorra) will all
battle it out for the two top slots in this afternoon’s
games. Iceland’s earlier 2-0 defeat to Andorra means
that they are mathematically out of the event.
In the
event that all three times tie on points, then the
results between each side will be taken into account
and, if need be, the sets and then the points.
Things are less complicated in Pool A
where San Marino and Cyprus have both mathematically
secured their place in the semifinals. In lunchtime’s
game, Luxembourg beat Malta 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 15-13) in
an unpredictable encounter to decide who would seal
third place in the pool and the chance to battle for
fifth place. The game lasted 63 minutes.
The big game in Pool A will take place
between the two leaders, San Marino and Cyprus, which
begins at 16:00 and is set to decide which team will
finish top to face the runner-up in Pool B.
