NICOSIA, 3 June 2009 -
Luxembourg secured their first gold medal in Table
Tennis at the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe,
rounding off their impressive run in the women’s team
event undefeated.
Their
3-0 victory over Cyprus was their fourth in succession
to finish top of the standings whilst at the same time
leaving their Cypriot hosts to battle out with San
Marino, who had earlier defeated Iceland 3-0, for second
place and the silver medal.
In the
men’s team event, Cyprus and Luxembourg will meet on
Wednesday night at 19:00 at the “Evangelos Florakis”
Multipurpose Hall to see who will claim the gold medal.
Earlier, Cyprus had defeated San Marino 3-2 in the first
semifinal whilst Luxembourg had also secured their place
in the final with a 3-1 win over Iceland in the other
semifinal.
