Luxembourg
Leads In Table Tennis
NICOSIA, 2 June
2009
-
Luxembourg took off to an
exceptional start in team table tennis in the XIII Games
of the Small States of Europe.
In the men’s category in
group A Luxembourg claimed first place, prevailing over
Liechtenstein (3-0) and Cyprus (3-2), while in the
women’s category it didn’t loose one set against San
Marino, Monaco and Iceland. Therefore Luxembourg appears
to be ready to repeat the success it enjoyed in Monaco a
decade ago, when it won gold medals in both the men and
women’s categories.
Cyprus women’s team also
fared well as it won against Monaco (3-0) and Iceland
(3-0) but is still second place and one win behind
Luxembourg who have high hopes of claiming a medal.
San Marino claimed fist
place in men’s group B after beating Monaco, Malta and
Iceland, each with a score of (3-0).
On Wednesday June 3 during
the morning semi-finals of the men’s team table tennis
Luxembourg will compete against Iceland while Cyprus
will fare San Marino.
The finals will take place
on the same day at 19:00.
Women’s team table tennis
continues and will end on Wednesday June 3 with Iceland
– San Marino, Cyprus Luxembourg (morning) San Marino –

tennis was honoured by the Duke of Luxembourg, Grand
Duke Henri, and the President of the Olympic Committee
