Double
Victories For Cyprus, San Marino and Luxembourg

- There were double celebrations for both the men and
women’s Cyprus Beach Volleyball Teams on Tuesday as they
secured victories in their first games.
There were also two consecutive victories for San Marino
men’s team and the Luxembourg women’s team.
In the afternoon encounters, Georgios Platritis and
Paris Christofi of Cyprus defeated the Maltese team of
Daniel Gauci and Paul Vella 2-0 whilst also in a
celebratory mood was the duo of fellow Cypriots Manolina
Konstantinou και Mariota Aggelopoulou who beat Iceland’s
Laufey Bjork Sigmundsdottir και Lilja Jonsdottir.
In
front of strong contingent of home supporters, both the
Cypriot sides were given the push they needed to advance
whilst the interval cheerleaders also added to the
afternoon’s entertainment.
Platritis and Christofi’s victory means that they have
secured their place in the final four and will now
battle it out with nearest rivals San Marino for first
place in the pool on Wednesday at 16:00. The Cypriot
internationals easily prevailed taking the first set
21-12 before putting on yet another strong performance
to seal the second set 21-11 in just 35 minutes.
The
Taparini twins, Alfredo and Francesco, also secured
victories on Tuesday for San Marino defeating Malta 2-0
before then claiming another victory over Luxembourg 2-0
(21-8, 21-9).
Konstantinou and Aggelopoulou easily won their first
game against Andorra 2-0 before then beating Iceland 2-0
(21-14 and 21-18). The Cyprus Women’s Team now needs
just one win from Wednesday’s games against Luxembourg
(10:15) and Liechtenstein (18:30) to be a sure of a
place in the last four.
The only game on
Tuesday to be pushed to all three sets was the meeting
between Andorra and Monaco in the Men’s event which
Andorra eventually won after tie break 2-1 (21-11, 15-21
και 15-11). In the other game, the Luxembourg Women’s
Team beat Monaco 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) in just 36 minutes.
