NICOSIA, 9 October 2008 -
Cyprus will take part in the III Commonwealth Youth
Games 2008 with 14 athletes in Athletics, Swimming,
Tennis, Boxing, Shooting and Table Tennis.
The Commonwealth Youth
Games 2008 are being held in Pune, India, 12-18 October
and include nine sports.
Cyprus will not be
represented in Badminton, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
The only other Small
State of Europe to take part in the Commonwealth Games
is Malta, which is fielding a total of twelve athletes,
in Athletics and Shooting.
A total of 1300 athletes
from 71 countries are expected in Pune, to compete in
nine sports.
