NICOSIA,
17 June 2008 -
The delegates that took part in the two-day meetings and
inspection visits for the XIII Games of the Small States
of Europe CYPRUS 2009 departed Cyprus highly satisfied
with the progress of the preparations for the big event,
next year.
The delegates took part
in meetings of the Executive and Technical Committees of
the GSSE and also visited the venues and hotels that
will be used during the Games.
"We have no doubt that
Cyprus is already ready to host the XIII GSSE," said
Lino Farrugia Sacco, president of the National Olympic
Committee of Malta (right). "When we have received satisfactory
answers to all serious matters and our only worry is the
air conditioning in one of the venues, we can safely say
that Cyprus has a very high level of preparedness. I
have been involved in the Olympic Movement for 20 years
and I think that I am in a position to judge that Cyprus
is not just raising the bar, but that the organisers are
doing an excellent job. CYPRUS 2009 has the good fortune
to have Kikis Lazarides at the helm, a man with vast
experience in the Olympic Movement. I am sure that he
and his colleagues will deliver exactly what they have
promised."
The President of the
Luxembourg Olympic Committee, Mark Theisen (left) said that
Cyprus is ready to organise the Games today. "Following
the presentation of the organisers, I have been
convinced that Cyprus can organise the Games right away.
There is no doubt that Cyprus will organise excellent
Games. There is enthousiasm, which is vital to the
success and all the right people have been appointed in
the right positions". His only worry seems to be
the traffic. "We were on the road during rush hour and
especially for athletes that will have to travel across
town, it won't be easy. I am sure, however, that the
organisers will do their best to solve the problem,"
concluded the President of the Luxembourg Olympic
Committee.
