
NICOSIA,
14 May 2008 - The pre-Games period for the XIII Games of the
Small States of Europe CYPRUS 2009 officially began today,
when the logo, mascot and website of the competition were
presented. "We have already done a lot of work until today,
but the next 12 months we will intensify our efforts," said
Cyprus Olympic Committee Presdient, Kikis N. Lazarides.
Pericles Christoforides,
the creator of the logo and mascot of CYPRUS 2009,
presented his creations and explained the concept and
inspiration that led him to use the the ship of Kyrenia
for the logo and the white dove for the mascot.
A special presentation
was also made of the official website of CYPRUS 2009,
which was also launched today.
In addition, President
Lazarides announced that final decisions have been made
concerning the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of CYPRUS
2009, but details will remain closely guarded secrets
until the Games. "The Opening Ceremony will be held at
the GSP Sports Complex, but the location of the Closing
Ceremony will be a surprise," said President Lazarides.
