The Principality of Monaco
is the smallest in size of the Small States of Europe,
covering a total area of less than 2 square kilometres. As a
consequence, Monaco is Europe's most densely populated
country. Monaco is located on the Mediterranean Sea,
surrounded by France on all other sides.
Monaco, which has hosted the
Games of the Small States of Europe twice (1987 and 2007)
ranks fourth in the all-time medals table of the
competition--just behind the "Big Powers", Iceland, Cyprus
and Luxembourg.
Monaco enjoys a
Mediterranean climate, with mild, wet winters and hot, dry
summers.
